Salary ranges between $81,846 to $122,727 per annum plus superannuation, depending on the successful applicant’s skills, qualifications, and years of teaching experience, as per the Bacchus Marsh Grammar Enterprise Agreement 2022.

Key Selection Criteria

Successful applicants will meet the following criteria:

  • Appropriate teaching qualifications.
  • Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) registration or the ability to become registered in Victoria as a Teacher.
  • Demonstrated teacher experience within the relevant discipline.
  • First aid certificate (or wiliness to obtain).
  • Valid driver’s licence.

We seek a passionate and dedicated Secondary School Educational Advisor - Literacy to join our Learning Support team. The Learning Support team is committed to supporting students who may require extra support because of a disability, cognitive issue, learning difficulty or any other reason that impacts accessing the curriculum.  The Secondary School Educational Advisor - Literacy will play a pivotal role in enhancing literacy education and promoting reading and writing skills among students.

This position is a full-time, ongoing opportunity to commence Term 4, 2024 or with negotiation Term 1, 2025. The position will work across the Maddingley Campus (located in Bacchus Marsh) and Woodlea Campus (located in Aintree estate/Rockbank).

Key Accountabilities

This position is responsible for the following duties:

  • Ensuring that individual student learning outcomes are maximised.
  • Supporting teaching staff in identifying and supporting students with specific needs and/or disabilities, including professional learning related to developing Individual Support Plans.
  • Collaborate with teachers to integrate literacy instruction across different subjects and grade levels.
  • Design and implement comprehensive literacy programs tailored to various age groups and educational levels.
  • Develop and administer literacy assessments to identify students' reading and writing levels and specific needs.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of evidence-based literacy intervention programs to support the learning of students with additional needs.
  • Ensuring effective teaching and assessment processes are in place to cater to students with individual needs and/or disabilities across the School.
  • Analyse student performance data to evaluate the effectiveness of literacy programs and interventions.
  • Inspiring and motivating students and staff through positive role modelling and being responsible for continuous team improvement within the school context.
  • Modelling best practices in implementing personalised learning, educational programs or curriculum initiatives, monitoring student achievement and teacher effectiveness.
  • Contribute to ensuring that BMG complies with the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disabilities (NCCD) as per annual NCCD guidelines in consultation with Heads of School and Head of Learning Support.  
  • Working with Heads of School and Head of Learning Support to support new students with additional learning needs who transition into the school.
  • Working with parents to provide personalised learning services to students, including participating in scheduled Student Support Group meetings.
  • Work with the Head of Learning Support and Heads of School in collating, formatting, and proofing information for student Individual Support Plans across the school.
  • Contribute to grant applications and special funding for students with disabilities as per Independent Schools Victoria (ISV) guidelines in consultation with the Speech Pathologist, Heads of School and Head of Learning Support.
  • Carry out administrative duties such as operational, budgeting and record-keeping requirements, including completing timetables for Senior/Education Support Officers and preparing/ presenting reports to school administrators, highlighting progress, trends, and areas for improvement.
  • Engage in Child Safe Practices in accordance with the School’s Child Safe policies and procedures.

  • Access to the Christmas shutdown/School closure of which all Employees are granted leave over this period without deducted from their annual leave entitlements. This occurs from the Friday falling before the 21st of December of each year until the Monday following New Year’s Day, unless that Monday is a public holiday, in which case the School will remain closed until the next working day.

Key Selection Criteria

The successful applicant will have:

  1. Current registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT).
  2. Bachelor’s degree in Education focusing on Literacy or a related field (mandatory).
  3. Master’s degree in Inclusive Education or equivalent (desirable).
  4. Experience teaching across various grade levels.
  5. Experience developing and using effective procedures and tools to assess literacy skills, track student progress, and tailor instruction to individual needs.
  6. Strong understanding of assessment frameworks and methodologies for accurate and actionable insights into literacy development.
  7. Experience implementing and evaluating literacy interventions for diverse learning needs, with proven strategies to enhance literacy outcomes.
  8. Knowledge of literacy-based learning difficulties, including identification, assessment, and management, with the ability to develop targeted interventions.
  9. Strong organisational skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  10. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for building relationships with stakeholders.
  11. Experience monitoring student achievement, engagement, and well-being and supporting staff to address diverse learning needs.
  12. Previous experience in a similar role within a school environment (desirable).
