With the summer entering its peak for harvesting, the team at Staughton Vale have been busy preparing the Market Garden and Kitchen Garden for another academic year of student activities. From sunflowers to tomatoes, peas to pumpkins, we are due for a bumper crop. Throughout the forthcoming year, students will have the opportunity to benefit from accessing the produce in and from the Market and Kitchen Gardens, and thereby developing their understanding of the “Feed 2 Seed” concept with our onsite team and campus staff.
In addition, students may notice the recent addition of an Aquaponics installation in the hayshed. For the first time, students will be able to see Rainbow and Brown Trout in both the hayshed and the large dam, with programs for learning about these being delivered.
The Campus also now boasts a Volcanic Plains audio trail, in addition to the Bush Tucker, Farm and Medicinal Trail already installed. Later in the year, we will be continuing our commitment to Landcare through targeted revegetation during the National Tree Planting Week, and we will have further updates on the installation of the Observatory at the top of the property.
In 2024 we had 11,000 individual student visits, and with so much more to see and do at the Farm Campus, we look forward to another amazing year of student experience!!!
Barwon Water Sustainability Partnership
Thanks to our partnership with Barwon Water, through the Staughton Vale Campus, we have been gifted a limited number of 2025 door calendars.
Junior School home groups at the Maddingley and Woodlea Campuses, as well as the ELC, will feature the calendars on their doors. The calendars are intended to raise the awareness of water use and sustainable practices.
If you would like a FREE calendar for your home, a limited supply is available at the Maddingley and Woodlea Campus, via the main reception.
