Bacchus Marsh Grammar – Staughton Vale Campus features in Parliament!
On Wednesday 19 March, David Gorton (Head of Staughton Vale Campus) and Kimone Stacey Missen (Project Officer) were invited to represent the School’s Junior Landcare Program, exhibiting in the Queen’s Hall at the Landcare Victoria and Victorian Environment Friends Victorian Environmental Volunteer Showcase.
The event enabled Bacchus Marsh Grammar to showcase the achievements made to date in terms of Landcare projects, including revegetation, environmental practices and the development of produce. Throughout the event, David and Kimone were able to share best practice, network with other Landcare groups and showcase the programs that take place at Staughton Vale.
The Victorian Friends Environment Network supports and connects local volunteer groups to protect and care for Victoria’s natural environment, whilst Landcare supports communities to care for the land and environment through sustainable farming, conservation and community-based environmental projects.
Whilst at Parliament, the school was visited by Michaela Settle MP (Member for Eureka), Bev McArthur MP (Member for Western Victoria Region) and Steve McGhie (Member for Melton, Cabinet Secretary).

Students take on the University of Queensland Sunflower Challenge
Following on from the successful BMG Sunflower Competition, we have been invited to take part in the prestigious University of Queensland’s Sunflower Challenge.
The University of Queensland’s Sunflower Competition promotes the science behind agronomy and horticulture to students, teachers and parents. The purpose of the competition is to inspire current science students to become the next generation of plant and agricultural scientists, and to support teachers to deliver their Science curriculum in a plant-based context. The competition provides an interactive learning opportunity with school-based experiments that classes can work through at their own pace and level of difficulty.
Students from each of the Campuses have been planting their sunflowers following the strict competition regulations and, given that we are now in the Autumn growing season, the sunflowers will ultimately need to be relocated to the Staughton Vale hot house, prior to the judging event in May.
Good luck to all of the students taking part in the competition.
Mr David Gorton – Director of Student Engagement / Head of Staughton Vale Campus
