ACS Sporting Association – All Stars Award

Last Wednesday evening 3 September, the ACS Sporting Association hosted its annual All Stars Award Presentation at Mission Whitten Oval.

The ACS recognises the fairest and best players across all team sports each year, with individual award winners also earning selection in the prestigious All-Star Teams for their respective carnivals.

We are proud to announce that Leila Steghius has become the fourth Bacchus Marsh Grammar student to receive an ACS award, after being named in the Athletics All Star Group. Leila’s outstanding individual points tally at the recent carnival earned her the title of Female Athlete of the Meet—a remarkable honour open to all female competitors from Years 7 to 12.

Congratulations to Leila on this outstanding achievement. Her hard work, dedication and athletic excellence have been rightly recognised with this thoroughly deserved award.

Australian Interschools Snowsports Championships

A huge congratulations to Kaylee Wray (12I) and Tayla Wray (11J) who recently represented BMG at the Australian Interschools Snowsports Championships.

Across the competition weekend of the 6-7 September, the Wray sisters took part in several events, showing great determination and skill against strong opposition. Their efforts were rewarded with an outstanding achievement, claiming first place in the Division 1 Girls Ski Cross event. In doing so, they outperformed competitors from many well-established schools, a result of which both the girls and our school community should be extremely proud.

Western Ranges Division Athletics Carnival

On Thursday 11 September (Term 3, Week 8), BMG proudly took 32 students from Years 3–6 to compete in the Western Ranges Division Athletics Carnival. All students represented the school with great pride, effort and sportsmanship throughout the day.

At the conclusion of the Carnival, 13 students achieved a Top 2 placing in their respective events, securing qualification for the Western Metropolitan Regional Athletics Carnival in Term 4.

Regional Qualifiers:

A huge congratulations to these students for their outstanding performances and well done to all who competed and supported one another on the day. Further information regarding the Regional Carnival will be sent out to families before the end of Term 3.

Herald Sun Shield – Senior Boys

For the first time in the school’s history, our BMG Senior Boys team qualified for the prestigious Herald Sun Shield competition which was held Tuesday 9 September. This milestone marks an exciting step forward for our sporting program and provided a valuable opportunity for our students to test themselves against some of the strongest school teams in Victoria.

Across the day, the boys competed in four games, showing determination, teamwork and resilience in every match. Despite not recording a win, they played with great spirit and pride. The highlight came in a thrilling contest against Overnewton College, where the boys fell agonisingly short in a 1-point loss – a match that could have gone either way and kept spectators on the edge of their seats.

What made the team’s effort even more commendable was their performance while being four players short, forcing the group to dig deep and support one another throughout the tournament. Their perseverance and commitment to representing BMG with pride was evident in every game.

On behalf of the BMG community, we congratulate the Senior Boys on this historic achievement; their efforts are a credit to themselves and the school.

A special thank you goes to Coach, Mr Velden, for all the time and effort he has dedicated to the Senior Boys team.

Herald Sun Shield – Senior Girls

Our Senior Girls AFL team recently represented BMG in the prestigious Herald Sun Shield competition which was held on Thursday 4 September, an achievement in itself that highlights the talent and dedication of our students.

The team played two tough matches across the day, coming up against strong opposition. While we were unable to secure a win, the girls gave their all in every contest, demonstrating resilience, teamwork and determination from start to finish. Their efforts on the field reflected the values of hard work and sportsmanship that we are proud to see in our school teams.

A special thank you goes to Coaches, Mrs Garner and Ms Brown, for their time, effort and guidance in leading the team throughout the season.

BMPSSA Summer Sport Day

Due to adverse weather conditions, this year’s BMPSSA Summer Sport Day was held across both Friday 29 August and Friday 5 September.  As always, BMG fielded strong teams filled with talent, with around 95 students representing the school across a variety of sports in Bacchus Marsh.

The event showcased a wide range of competitions including Basketball, Cricket, Newcombe, Rounders and Tennis.

A huge congratulations to all our Year 5 and 6 students for their effort, enthusiasm and sportsmanship throughout both days.

Please see the highlights below:

A massive well done to our Girls 1 team who were awarded the Spirit Award, which recognises teams for their fouls and body contact, fair-mindedness, positive attitude and self-control, rules knowledge, and respect for opponents. This achievement is a fantastic example of our students displaying and living out the BMG school values in a competitive sporting environment.

A sincere thank you is extended to the coaches, Mr Castrignano, Mrs Garner, Mr Oldaker and Miss Peterson, for their dedication, coaching, and overall support in preparing and guiding the students throughout the championships
