‘Squishies’ at School

Bacchus Marsh Grammar recognises that some students benefit from fidget devices as part of a professionally recommended strategy for managing concentration, anxiety or sensory needs. Fidget devices may be used only when prescribed or recommended by an occupational therapist, psychologist or other suitably qualified health professional, and when prior permission has been granted by the relevant Head of Campus. They should not be brought to school simply as toys or without approval.

The school will not permit ‘Squishies’ to be used as fidget or stress-relief devices. Many of these products are unregulated, meaning their contents, construction and safety cannot always be reliably verified. If punctured or ruptured, they may release substances that create health, safety and cleaning concerns. We have also experienced recent incidents in which ‘Squishies’ have burst in classrooms, causing significant damage and disruption. We ask families to ensure that students do not bring these items to school and to work with Student Services should their child require the use of an approved fidget or sensory support.
