Design & Technology Workshop Assistant

Have you worked in a workshop, makerspace, manufacturing, trade or technical environment and shown others how to use tools safely and well?

Bacchus Marsh Grammar is seeking a practical, safety-focused Technology Technician to support the day-to-day operation of our Design and Technology facilities. This role is ideal for someone from an industry, trade, manufacturing, prototyping or technical background who is interested in bringing their skills into an educational setting.

The successful applicant will be working at our Maddingley Campus in Bacchus Marsh. Full time and part time applicants are encouraged to apply.

You do not need previous experience working in a school. What matters most is your ability to maintain safe, well-organised workshop spaces, support others in using equipment responsibly and contribute positively to a team environment.

About the role

You will be responsible for:

  • Maintaining workshop spaces, tools, machinery, and equipment
  • Supporting staff and students in the safe use of technology and materials
  • Managing inventories, materials, and resources
  • Ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety requirements
  • Assisting with hands-on projects and co-curricular/enrichment activities

This is a varied, practical role that combines technical skills, organisation and people interaction. This role reports to the Head of Faculty: Design and Technology.

About you

You may come from a background such as:

  • Trades, manufacturing or fabrication
  • Makerspace or fab lab environments
  • Engineering or prototyping support roles
  • Technical production, AV or workshop operations
  • TAFE, university or industry training settings

You will bring:

  • Strong safety awareness and good workshop habits
  • Practical problem-solving skills
  • Confidence working with tools, machinery and technology (laser cutters, 3D Printers and CNC)
  • A calm, professional manner when working with young people
  • A willingness to learn the rhythms and responsibilities of a school environment

Qualifications/ Licences

  • Evidence of relevant training and/or experience, such as a Certificate or Diploma in a related field, and evidence of ongoing professional learning.
  • Working with children check (employment card).
  • National criminal history check.
