Message from the Principal:
This week the School held its annual Commencement Ceremony. The Assembly marks the official beginning of the year. Its purpose is to celebrate success in many forms; whether it be winning a Scholarship, being made a School Leader or achieving at the highest levels in the VCE.
Three things struck me during the Assembly and at the morning tea afterwards:
- Lou Callow spoke with passion on the history of the school and the nature of the culture that exists within our students and the school. That culture remains one that is open, respectful and filled with ambition and hope. We are blessed by the extent to which the students at the school are supportive of what we do for them and the degree to which they want to work with us. In a nutshell our students are thoroughly decent individuals.
- Aiden Johnson in his speech as Dux of 2017 spoke of the difficulties of Year 12 but how the support of teachers and most importantly fellow students was the reason that he had done so well. Whilst I suspect it was also because he is a bright young man who worked hard, it is wonderful to see him grasping that success rarely comes from working alone. It is a social process that requires harnessing of the individual and the team.
- The pride with which so many of us have in what has been achieved in thirty years. From unpromising beginnings something significant continues to grow. Whilst we should never take success for granted, I think all those many people involved in making the school that which it is today can look back on our success to date with some pride.
Congratulations to all School Leaders, the 2018 Scholarship recipients and our High Achievers from 2017.
