Maddingley
Equestrian Club Excursion to Melbourne International Horse Trials
Last Friday, our Equestrian Club members had an absolutely fantastic day out at the prestigious Melbourne International Horse Trials held at Werribee Park. It was a brilliant opportunity for our riders and enthusiasts to witness top-level eventing firsthand and gain invaluable insights.
The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the exclusive cross-country course walk a five-star eventer, Sam Jeffree! Sam, a familiar face on the Australian eventing circuit, generously shared his knowledge and expertise, guiding our students around the challenging and intricate cross-country track. He explained the technicalities of various fences, discussed lines and approaches, and offered invaluable strategic advice – giving our students a true five-star perspective on what it takes to tackle such a demanding course.
Witnessing the sheer athleticism of the horses and riders, and understanding the precision required at this level, was incredibly inspiring for everyone. Our members left feeling motivated and with a deeper appreciation for the sport of eventing.
A huge thank you to Sam Jeffree for taking the time to share his expertise with us, and to the organisers of the Melbourne International Horse Trials for hosting such a spectacular event. It was a memorable day that will undoubtedly fuel the passion for equestrian sport within our club for a long time to come!

Bria wins the Maddingley UoQ Sunflower competition
Congratulations to Bria A (Year 8) for growing the sunflower with the largest head at the Maddingley Junior Landcare Club.
Students were given the opportunity to grow a sunflower from seed, and just 3 months later, the head was weighed. With over twenty entrants, Bria’s sunflower head was declared the winner, weighing in at 42 grams.
A video of the weighing was shared in the National Competition, and although the growing season has long since passed, we hope that Bria’s entry will be “Best in Class” in the national judging.
Well done to all of the students who took part.
Any students interested in growing vegetables, native plants and sustainable projects should attend the weekly Junior Landcare Co-curricular on Fridays with Mr Gorton.
