FROM THE PRINCIPAL

One of the simplest ways families can support their child’s education is by ensuring they arrive at school on time each day.
At Bacchus Marsh Grammar, students are expected to be in their Tutor Group no later than the 8:46 am bell. This means allowing sufficient time to arrive at school, make their way to their Tutor Group, organise their belongings and be settled in their seat, ready to begin the day when the bell sounds.
For families driving to school, we ask that sufficient time be allowed for the increased traffic experienced during the morning drop-off period, ensuring students arrive with enough time to be organised and settled.
Tutor Group is an important part of the school day where students connect with their Tutor Group teacher, receive important notices, prepare for the day ahead and begin the morning with a sense of routine and belonging.
A positive start to the day has a significant impact on learning. Students who are settled before the bell are ready to engage from the very first moment of instruction. Conversely, arriving after the bell can disrupt both their own learning and that of their classmates, while also resulting in valuable information shared during Tutor Group being missed.
We often speak to our students about the importance of making the most of every opportunity. Every lesson, every conversation and every experience contributes to their growth. Whilst a few minutes may not seem significant on any one day, those minutes accumulate over the course of a term and a school year into many hours of lost learning.
Punctuality is also an important life skill. It demonstrates respect. Respect for learning, for teachers, for classmates and for the responsibilities we all share as members of our community.
Consistent routines, punctuality and readiness to learn are essential qualities that will serve students well throughout their schooling, particularly as they progress into the demands of VCE.
I look forward to seeing all students arrive at school on time, ready to learn.
