BMG 2020 Grammarian Issue 4

3 FROM THE PRINCIPAL LOU CALLOW One of my first memories of Bacchus Marsh Grammar was being captivated by the student-driven public art that could be found around the school. I soon found that the key driver of this work was Lou Callow. Lou is that most wonderful thing; an inspirational teacher of substance. Lou has worked with our students over almost a quarter of a century. She has brought students out of their shells, calmed those who were angry and encouraged those who were dispirited. She has worked equally with staff and helped create an atmosphere of caring, which is central to our approach to pastoral care. Lou now finishes her time with us as a teacher at the end of this year. She has agreed to continue to work with the school and, more importantly, with students on a variety of Art projects next year. I would like to thank Lou for making Bacchus Marsh Grammar ‘her school’ for so much of her career, and thank her for the difference she has made to so many young people. I equally look forward to her continued involvement in the new year on a number of projects at both campuses of our school community. NICI DELLER Nici Deller leaves us after 11 years to take up a position as Head of Junior School at Moama Grammar. Nici has been an integral part of the development of our Junior School in the past few years. Her ability to take on a variety of tasks and work to enhance student growth has been greatly appreciated. Whilst we will all miss her, I wish Nici and her family well for their move to life on the Murray. Over the year we have all, I am sure, had periods in which we have had negative feelings about the disruptions to our every day life and our plans. We have coped with those difficulties extremely well. I feel that we have shown our strength as a community and worked through the difficulties of the year with enormous success. I think that this success owes a great deal to our wonderful teachers like Lou and Nici and the commitment that families have to achieving the best for their children. I would like to thank all members of the community for your steadfast support during the year. I wish you all a restful holiday and look forward to a great year in 2021. – Mr Andrew A. Neal, Principal Lou Callow Nici Deller
