Accelerated Senior Program – Year 9 commencing 2023
Program Kaizen provides a specialist learning program comprised of three distinct pathways. The program will be delivered exclusively at the Woodlea Campus from 2023.
Each pathway is designed to accelerate and challenge students via a rigorous academic course, which has been carefully selected to accommodate students’ strengths as learners. A hallmark feature of Program Kaizen is the compulsory study of a Language subject through to Year 12. This will enrich students’ learning experiences, promote creative thinking skills, and maximise their ATAR scores. Underpinning this scholarly environment is the ‘Allez!’ program. This will be undertaken by Year 9 students one afternoon each week. This is based on the six Core Values of Bacchus Marsh Grammar. It will develop students to become life-long learners and active members of society who will engage critically and responsibly with the world around them.
A range of new facilities will be developed to support Program Kaizen and the growth of the Woodlea Campus. The first of these will open in 2024 with a new library, technology and classroom facility.

This pathway is designed for students wishing to focus on the Mathematics and Science disciplines. It is a highly academic program, designed to accelerate students who are very good at Maths, through the General and Further Mathematics courses and prepare them for the possibility of taking two more Maths subjects as part of their VCE curriculum. Students who choose this pathway will not get the same level of choice as students in the Blue or Gold Pathways. One of the key advantages for students in the Acceleration Pathway is that they will undertake only 4 subjects in Year 12. This will maximise the time and effort they can give to these subjects. All students will participate in the core subjects, consisting of English, an advanced Maths and Science course as well as Humanities. They will also participate in the same number of ‘Allez!’ sessions as every other student. In Year 9 and 10 they undertake the same number of Language sessions each week. In short, this is the most rigorous pathway and will require students to meet entry requirements which include grade averages and exceptional classroom learning practices demonstrated throughout their time in Middle School (particularly Year 8 Semester 1 & 2 examination results).
This pathway offers students the most choice and gives students flexibility within a clearly defined boundary. This encourages language studies as well as the core subjects undertaken by all students in each pathway and of course the Allez! Program. This ensures that the Blue Pathway is academically challenging and sets high expectations for students who choose not to undertake an accelerated course into VCE. This said, students can choose a VET subject in Year 10, or even a Units 1 & 2 if they are ready for this additional challenge. Some students in the Blue Pathway, will undertake a ‘straight’ Year 10 program and begin their VCE in Year 11. The Enhancement pathway caters for students who wish to enter a highly academic learning environment by adding a Language subject to their course, include advanced Maths and Science programs at Years 9 & 10, regardless of the Maths they choose in Year 11; but are not tied to undertaking an accelerated VCE program. This allows them to consolidate their learning in each of the core subjects and feel well-equipped to face the academic challenges of a rigorous VCE course when they enter Year 11.
This pathway offers students some choice for their semester elective subjects in addition to the core subjects of English, advanced Maths and Science and Humanities. Students will also enjoy the Allez! Program each week as well as their chosen Language subject. Those electing the Challenge pathway will also undertake a Units 1 & 2 subject in Year 9: Legal Studies. This acceleration pathway gives students who are not necessarily outstanding mathematicians, but who are keen to accelerate to a VCE subject, a challenging alternative. Students in this pathway are also able to maximise the number of subjects included in their final ATAR score and, like students in the Black Pathway, they too will undertake 4 subjects in Year 12.
